Copyrights & Intellectual Property

Our Commitment to the Art Community

Snapping Turtle Gallery was built on a foundation of respect for artists, creators, and the communities that surround them. Every decision we make as a company reflects that commitment. We support the art community in every way we can — and that means operating with full integrity when it comes to intellectual property.

Fan Art Disclaimer

All artwork available on Snapping Turtle Gallery is independently created fan art. Our prints are not officially licensed by, affiliated with, or endorsed by any major entertainment company, franchise, or rights holder. Character names, likenesses, and related intellectual property belong to their respective owners.

Fan art exists in a long and celebrated tradition within creative communities. We are passionate supporters of that tradition and the talented independent artists who bring these characters to life through their own unique vision and craft.

Our Work with Voice Actors

Snapping Turtle Gallery has completed commissioned artwork projects for voice actors including Bryce Papenbrook, Johnny Yong Bosch, Erica Schroeder, Tara Sands, Brendan Hunter, and others — producing collector-quality pieces they have personally signed and shared with their fans. These commissions represent our dedication to the creative community and the people who bring beloved characters to life. These relationships are independent of the franchises and companies associated with those characters.

Artist Rights & Ownership

The artists whose work appears on Snapping Turtle Gallery retain full ownership of their original creative work. Snapping Turtle Gallery licenses the right to produce and sell physical prints of that work. We are committed to protecting the intellectual and artistic property of every artist we work with. We humbly request that no person submit work to Snapping Turtle Gallery that may infringe on the intellectual property of other artists, companies, or their trademarks.

Understanding Intellectual Property

There are several international treaties that relate to intellectual property, though laws are not uniform across the world. Generally speaking:

  • Copyright protects the expression of an original idea recorded in a tangible form, such as artwork, photographs, paintings, and literary works.
  • Trademark protects the use of words, symbols, designs, or logos that identify and distinguish a source of goods.
  • Publicity Rights protect an individual's name, image, and likeness. You cannot use someone else's identity for commercial advantage without their consent.

A Note on Fair Use

You may be able to incorporate someone else's copyright or trademark into your own work if it qualifies as "fair use" or another permissible use. However, fair use applies in limited circumstances and is not the same as freedom of speech. The scope of fair use differs across countries and is a complex legal concept even for experts. If you believe your work qualifies as fair use, we strongly recommend consulting an attorney before using it in connection with Snapping Turtle Gallery's service. Snapping Turtle Gallery must act in accordance with its Notice and Takedown procedure when a report has been received, regardless of intent.

Your Responsibility

You take full responsibility for any work you submit or display on Snapping Turtle Gallery. This is reflected in our Terms of Service. Use of the Snapping Turtle Gallery website indicates continued acceptance of this agreement. If someone has created or owns the rights to any work — whether an individual artist or a global company — please obtain consent before using that work in connection with our service.

Repeat Infringer Policy

It is Snapping Turtle Gallery's policy, in appropriate circumstances, to disable and/or terminate the accounts of users who repeatedly infringe or are repeatedly charged with infringing the copyrights, trademark rights, intellectual property rights, or publicity rights of others.

DMCA Notice & Takedown

Snapping Turtle Gallery respects the intellectual property rights of others and asks our users to do the same. If you believe your content has been used in a way that constitutes an infringement of your rights, or if you need to file a counter-notice, please review our full DMCA Policy for complete instructions and contact information.
