Canvas vs. Metal Wall Art: Texture, Gloss & Display Choices

Choose canvas when you want woven texture and a stretched edge; choose metal when you want a thin rigid panel. At STG, both formats have a gloss finish, so neither should be treated as automatically glare-free.

Canvas: texture and depth

STG lists gloss canvas stretched over a ¾-inch frame. The fabric texture becomes part of the presentation, especially at close range. Check the product preview for any edge treatment, and ask about backing if it is important to your installation.

Metal: a thin, rigid surface

STG metal is listed as 1mm dye-sublimated aluminum with a smooth gloss finish. It gives the image a different edge profile from canvas and avoids fabric texture. Handle the corners and surface carefully; a rigid panel is not immune to bending or scratches.

Compare them in your room

Both finishes can reflect a window, lamp, or monitor. Stand where you normally view the wall and identify strong light sources before choosing the position. Soft indirect light can make either format easier to see.

Let the composition guide you

A quiet portrait can suit canvas texture, while a dense graphic composition can suit a smooth metal surface. These are aesthetic suggestions, not rules. The quality and crop of the source image matter in both formats.

Mixing the formats

You can mix canvas and metal deliberately. Repeat a color, align the centers, or use one size as a consistent supporting element. A mixed display is not automatically less coherent than a single-material wall.

Installation and ordering

Metal and canvas options include hanging hardware. Choose wall fasteners appropriate for the specific piece and wall, and review the dimensions before purchase. Standard wall-art production usually takes 2–4 business days, with transit additional; read the shipping policy for current estimates.
